Quality education with values

Jepegomi Academy teaches 131 children in the Kahawa Sukari community, from kindergarten to Grade 6, a school the ministry built a classroom at a time and is building still.

The school today

The Academy sits in Kahawa Sukari, Nairobi, Kenya, run by the same hands as the church: Pastor Simon & Joyce Nderitu. Children come from families across the neighbourhood, and the fees are kept where those families can reach them.

It did not start where it stands. The first classrooms were a row of iron-sheet rooms on the roadside, with the school's name painted on by hand. Lessons happen in semi-permanent blocks now (stone to the window sill, iron sheet above, a proper roof over both), and the bigger classrooms the government requires are going up behind them.

The classes are small enough that a child is known by name rather than by number. And what the school is for was painted on that first signboard and has not changed since: value-based education: character and Scripture taught alongside the syllabus, because the ministry has never thought those were two separate subjects.
